The Mimbreno oval serving platter in maroon and white features the deer motif in the original 1937 colorway. The deer is among the most recurring subjects in Mimbres pottery, depicted in profile with the geometric body patterning characteristic of the style. This motif was found on burial pottery excavated from sites along the Mimbres River in southwestern New Mexico. The maroon and white palette is the one Mary Colter chose for the Fred Harvey Company’s Super Chief dining cars, drawn directly from the palette of ancient Mimbres pottery. At platter scale, the motif reads with the full presence of the Mimbres tradition. Vitrified ceramic, restaurant-grade, handcrafted in Tucson by HF Coors.
